As of August 1, 2011 we will no longer accept snail-mail submissions. Hard copy submissions received as of August 1 will be recycled or returned unread. See further guidelines below.
Salt Hill publishes poetry, prose, translations, reviews, essays, interviews, and artwork. We read submissions for the magazine between August 1 and April 1 of each year and for the Philip Booth Poetry Award between May 15 and August 1.

Poetry: Please submit no more than five poems at a time. We do NOT accept unsolicited email submissions.
Fiction/Nonfiction: Please do not submit works of more than 30 pages. If you would like to send a longer piece, please query us via email first. We do NOT accept unsolicited email submissions.
Art: We are interested in unpublished 2D art—drawings, paintings, photography, mixed media, documentation of 3D art, typographic art, diagrams, maps, etc. We are especially interested in black-and-white work at the moment, but welcome art of all colors, shapes and stripes. Please email low-res jpegs of your work, or links to specific pieces (not a general website) you would like to submit, to salthillart@gmail.com. Please include a cover letter with a short biography, as well as a title/image list for all work submitted.
We accept simultaneous submissions, but ask that you alert us as soon as possible if your work is placed elsewhere. Retractions should be emailed to the corresponding genre editor:

Philip Booth Poetry Prize - $15.00
Guidelines:
- Enter up to three poems, any length, any style, each starting on a new page. Submit all poems in one document.
- Only previously unpublished work is accepted.
- The Booth prize is judged anonymously: your name and other identifiers (phone number, address, etc.) should NOT appear on any of the poems.
- All submissions will be considered for general publication. If you would like to providea bio, include it in the comments section when submitting. If you do not want your poems considered for general publication, include this in comments section.
- There is a $15 submission fee which includes the issue in which the winning poem appears.
- Simultaneous submissions will be accepted as long as you notify us immediately of its acceptance elsewhere. Multiple submissions are permitted, each with a paid submission fee.
- Family, colleagues, former students, or anyone who has a personal relationship with the guest judge are ineligible to submit. As are graduates and those affiliated with the Syracuse University Creative Writing Program.
